Living in Scotland sometimes it can be easy to take the beautiful scenery for granted but driving up the West Coast around Loch Lomond, through Glencoe and on towards Skye took our breathe away as it does every time we pass.
As we made our way to Eilean Donan for Natalie and Patrick’s wedding we couldn’t resist joining the tourists for some snaps. As you approach the castle which seems to be floating gracefully on the waves, it stands as a fortress, full of character and history, it’s no wonder Patrick chose here to propose those years ago and now for both to celebrate their love and marry.
The weather seemed to change on a whim, as we arrived on the Friday the sun was shining and glistened off the water but moments later the heavens had opened and the wind lashed the waves and rain onto the shore. A cycle of rain, wind, calm and sun ran throughout the day though there seemed to be something about this changing world that made you feel even more Scottish. Braced.
It was the morning of the wedding and the Bride and Groom were both surprisingly calm as they prepared in their separate rooms at the hotel with the help of their friends and family. Both members of a modified car club it was no surprise that Patrick took his pride and joy to the castle, surprising though that he let his brother drive it. As the guests took their seats in the grand setting of the castle Natalie arrived promptly, there was no making the groom wait on this occasion. The champagne was popped and set on ice cooling downstairs for the guests to enjoy after the ceremony which they did whilst congratulating the new married couple and enjoying the protection from the drastic weather by the walls of the castle.
Back at the hotel it was straight into the speeches where the father of the bride, groom and best man entertained the guests with tales of their own history followed by the buffet of food set out by the venue. The dance floor here is set a couple of steps down from the rest of the floor so guests had a great view of the newly married couple as they had their first dance before joining them to party through the night.
Natalie & Patrick we had a fantastic couple of days with you and your family, Eilean Donan will always remind us of you guys. We wish you all the best for the years ahead as husband and wife.
