Intimate South African wedding on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

Why do you want to capture your wedding on video?
Choosing to get married this way in Skye was a tough one. We wanted to create a special memory for our families (especially Kath’s Dad who hasn’t been well, and whose heart has always been in the Scottish Highlands) but at the same time, it meant we wouldn’t be able to have many of the friends and extended family with us. Capturing the wedding on video is our way of making sure those who can’t be with us, still get a real sense of what it was like.

Why did you pick us?
Brad’s Mom, Sandy, actually came across your site, and she shared it with me. Once we’d seen your work, nothing else came close. We loved your cinematic treatment and the way your videos were anything but ‘standard’ wedding videos.

How did you meet?
Brad and I have actually known each other from school, we’re both from the same small town in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, called Grahamstown. We met in an after-school computer science class in about 2004. I didn’t do the class for very long, but after being a wing-woman for one of my friends who liked Brad, he and I became friends. And we had a spark from the start and always stayed in touch even when we were on different continents. Took us a while to officially start dating, but we’ve been together since 2009.

Chaos of Life — In this loft style wedding film, the groom surprised his bride by singing a song to her before they got married, a lovely moment shared by close family and friends —

Why do you want to capture your wedding on video?
This marks the start of our life together, of our family. We want to be able to remember it as it happened, and photos and memory just can’t capture that. We want to be able to share it with our kids and our grandkids.

Why did you pick us?
We first met you at Henry & Carly Lee’s wedding. You guys were so nice and then when we saw the finished project for their wedding, we just knew we had to have Y’all. Visually and creatively, you guys capture our style.

Tell us about the proposal:
Nick wanted to propose to Ellen in Scotland, in the Isle of Skye. She became sick up there and so he thought about doing it in Glasgow. Sadly, the moment never came. He eventually did it in their home back in Texas. He had asked her family and told her friends before they left for their trip to Scotland, so it was a month-long cliff hanger for everyone back home.

The venue(s) or location, why this place above anywhere else?
We love 111 East. It captures the modern, minimalist style we both like. There is so much space to work with, which has allowed us to really be creative.

Nick, the groom surprised his bride by performing a song for her before they had seen each other on the wedding day. This is a little taster of how it and the rest of the wedding went.

“But, oh, what a wonderful feeling
Just to know that you are near
Sets my a heart a-reeling
From my toes up to my ears.”

Why Do You Want to Capture Your Wedding on Video?:
So that we have an amazing memory of the day. Many of our friends who have got married tell us that they never got to take in every aspect of the day and they also mention that they didn’t get chance to spend time with every guest so we hope that our wedding video will tell the story of the day and fill in the parts that we may not get to see. It will be a treasured memento of the day!

Describe The Proposal?:
We were in the US for a friends’ wedding in November 2015 and after that were spending a few days on our own in New York. Tom had been preparing for the proposal for some time and even let his family and a couple of close friends in on his plan. He took Jules in a cab to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and after a few aborted attempts at proposing in some of the more picturesque parts of the park – due to the sudden arrival of groups of school kids – took Jules into what was sure to be an empty part of the gardens in November – empty of flowers and people – the Fragrance Garden – and there proposed. No one knee just a very earnest conversation on a bench and the presenting of a vintage pocket watch.

The venue(s), why this place above anywhere else:
We chose Kinkell as we wanted to put our own stamp on everything – and Kinkell allowed us to do this, bringing in our own caterers, booze and decorations. Tom wanted to get married, in Scotland – he and his family are originally from Caithness – but didn’t want to drag everyone that far. St Andrews is also where Tom spent 4 years as a student so it was an added bonus that we found the perfect venue here. We also like the fact that we have St Andrews beach and the picturesque countryside as the backdrop to our wedding even if it is in November!

Why Do You Want to Capture Your Wedding on Video?:
So that we can look back and remember the day and see all the little parts we missed! See everyone having fun and get a different perspective on it.

How Did You Meet?:
We met at Newcastle uni through the ski and snowboard club. For the first year we were just friends then the next year Chris was President of the ski club and I (Hannah) was race captain – so we had to talk quite a bit and then it developed into something more!

Describe The Proposal?:
We were away skiing in Meribel with another couple. On the last day we went up to one of our favourite off-piste runs and the other couple left us (feigning migraines) and we ducked under the rope and started trekking along the ridge. After a while, Chris skied down to the top of the ridge where we would ski down from and then said he’d take a photo of me… then he clicked off his skis and I knew what was happening. I followed him down the mountain like a giddy child following a ski instructor and then we met our friends for lunch… next thing I know both of our families jumped out from behind a wall which was the next surprise! We had a boozy lunch followed by apres ski – it was amazing!

Why this place above anywhere else:
This is Chris’ parent’s place – they bought it 3 years ago and have been renovating it ever since. So it’s very special to us all and is unique – the previous owners were married here but no one else so far! It is a
stunning building with such beautiful grounds!
